Dr. Kathy Ann Edwards, 57, of Fayetteville passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019. She was born on March 21, 1962 to the late Julius Thomas Anderson on March 21, 1962 at Camden Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Edwards was educated in the Kershaw County School system where a passion for medicine and assisting others developed. Kathy began training in the nursing program at Kershaw County Vocational School in her Senior year at Camden High School. After graduating in 1980 she attained a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification while workings as a Candy Striper at Kershaw County Memorial Hospital. After 5 years she received a scholarship to continue her education at Midlands Technical College and completed course work and acquired Registered Nurse (RN) certification.

Dr. Edwards graduated as the Valedictorian of the RN program. Upon completing studies at Midlands Tech, she enrolled in medical school at the University of South Carolina, specializing in Internal Medicine, acquiring a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1995. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at Shadyside, where she served as chief resident and as a clinical educator for the coronary care and intensive care units. Dr. Edwards also served as the Vice President of the National Student Medical Association. Performing over 24 prolific years of internist medical service, she was considered one of the prominent doctors in the area.

Dr. Edwards was preceded in death by her father and is survived by her husband of 34 years, Johnny Thomas Edwards, III; her son, Trenton Alexander Edwards; her mother, Cora Anderson; her nephew, Lontrell Anderson; her brothers and sisters, Jonel Bracey and wife Carol, William Bracey, Delores Kelly and husband Tyrone, Julius Anderson and wife Diane, Judy Beaufort and husband Samuel, Curtis Anderson, Ora Anderson, Terry Anderson and wife Yvonne, Louise Anderson, Joey Anderson and Roddy Anderson; and also a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Dogwood Church, 975 Georgia 74, Tyrone, GA 30290, with Pastor Jay Vineyard officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

A funeral service will be held at 11::00 AM on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 801 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29021. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1659 Kershaw Highway, Camden, SC 29020.
