Obituary of Daniel Patrick Bates, Jr.
ELGIN – Funeral service for Daniel Patrick Bates, Jr., 74, will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Burial will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Pathfinder Club c/o Columbia First Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Mr. Bates passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019. Born in Eugene, Oregon, he was the son of the late Daniel Patrick Bates Sr. and Emma Parker Bates. He retired from the United States Army having served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Mr. Bates was a member of Columbia First Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed hiking, camping, reading, photography and being outdoors.

Surviving are his wife, Judith Laurel Skuttle Bates; children, Rachel Jameson (George) of Hope, Mich., and Daniel P. Bates III (Anita) of Lebanon, Oreg.; step-children, Jennifer Chitty of Apex, N.C. and Rani Silva of Asheville, N.C.; brothers, Henry Bates (Linda) of Martinsburg, W.V. and Fred Bates (Judy) of Reedsport, Oreg.; and 8 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, George Jameson, Jr.
