John Richard was born November 27, 1937 in Denver, Colorado to George and Mabel (Duff) Van Der Wege.

John was a United States Navy Veteran.

He married Elnor DeBoer on October 17, 1959 in Prairie View, KS. They were blessed with four children.

John was a plumber and worked at the Norton County Hospital, Bethany College, and Bethany Home. He was also the owner and operator of Van's Plumbing and Repair.

He was a past member of the Lindsborg Lions Club and was the Lindsborg Blood Drive chairman for many years.

John was a faithful member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lindsborg. Both John and his wife Elnor were long time supporters of the Brazil Christian Mission, and they were members of the board.

John Richard "Dick" Van Der Wege, 82, of Lindsborg passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at Bethany Home, Lindsborg.

Left to honor his memory are daughters: Eva Hawks (Tom), of Smolan, KS, Nancy Bolden of Lindsborg; sons: Philip Van Der Wege (Helen) of Roswell, NM and Larry Van Der Wege (Rebecca) of Lindsborg, KS; sister: Roma Lougheed; as well as ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Elnor; as well as 4 sisters.

Visitation will be Friday, December 20 from 5pm-7pm at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS. The funeral will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 21 at Evangelical Covenant Church, 102 S. Washington, Lindsborg, KS with Pastor Jeff Waugh officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family requests that memorials in his name be given to Bethany Home, Evangelical Covenant Church, or Brazil Christian Missions.
