Norma Jean Ryckman, age 88 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at her home on Monday, December 9, 2019.

Norma Jean was born in Marlette, Michigan on February 25, 1931 to Goldie and Lucille Brown. She moved to Mio when she was 14. Norma Jean worked as a cook at Brown’s Restaurant and at the Log Cabin Restaurant. She became a school bus driver in the early 1970’s, retiring in the late 1980’s. It was a job she truly loved. Norma had been a former member of the Mio Wesleyan Church where she was active in supporting their missionary work. She later attended the Mio Baptist Church. Norma Jean had enjoyed bowling, hunting, and gardening. She also enjoyed working in the woods with her husband Harold and spending time with her family.

Norma Jean is survived by her husband Harold of Mio, MI; her children: Linda Layman of Mio, MI; Jerry (Deb) Carpenter of Michigan City, IN; Cathy Bunting of Florida; and Dan Ryckman of Glennie, MI; 13 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Jack in 1961; her son James Carpenter in 2009; 2 twin grandsons: Ethan & Jacob; her sister Olive Largent; and her brother Arthur Brown.

Visitation on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 6 – 9 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI. Norma Jean will also lie in state at the Mio Baptist Church on Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 12 Noon until Funeral Services at 1 PM with Pastor Glynn McMorris officiating. Interment will follow the services at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, Michigan.
