MAY 24, 1935 – JUNE 4, 2023

Alfene Stanley Meyer Page, (88), of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. With gratitude and joy, we celebrate her return to Heaven after a life well lived. She filled the world with love and will be missed by all who knew her. A gifted writer, poet, and avid reader, Alfene's custom library housed thousands of books, beautifully displayed and thoroughly enjoyed. As in those volumes, her own life story had many remarkable chapters.

Alfene was born to June Stanley Marsh and Henry Gray Meyer on May 24, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah, having endless fun with older sister June Ann and brother Gray. They all worked in the family photography studio, a side venture to their dad's firefighting career.

Alfene graduated from South High School in 1952 and started her next chapter working in the comptroller's office at Fort Douglas in Utah and Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach, Florida. She returned home to attend Utah State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in physical education, the first member of her family to graduate from college.

The summer before her senior year, she met Tom Page, a handsome veteran returned from the Marines and the Navy. They married June 20, 1960, in Salt Lake City and she began teaching English at Glendale Junior High School.

Alfene soon began another beautiful chapter as a mother welcoming Daniel, Michael, and Amy. Alfene loved using her talents to raise her children, teaching all to read before they began school. She was a room mom, PTA president, Cub Scouts den mother, Campfire Girls troop leader, and Sunday School teacher. The family enjoyed camping, fishing, vacationing throughout the West, bike riding, and going to the family cabin in Midway, Utah.

Alfene's next chapter arrived unexpectedly in 1974 when Tom and Danny died in an accident on a Boy Scout camping trip. Her courage, faith, and supportive extended circle lifted her in this new circumstance. She remained a stay-at-home mom for the next five years and began oil painting, built an addition on the cabin, and took her kids on vacations to nearly all the United States.

Turning another page, in 1979 Alfene began teaching 5th grade at The Carden School in Salt Lake. In 1984 she joined Kennedy Junior High as a 9th grade English teacher, finding her great love of helping students understand literature, writing, poetry, and ultimately themselves. She also earned a Master of Science in English from Utah State University in 1988. She retired in 2000 after a cumulative 22 years in the classroom.

In retirement, Alfene continued to be engaged with her family, delighting in her three grandsons and being there for birthdays, programs at school, grandparents' days, baseball and soccer games, freestyle mogul skiing competitions, Monopoly marathons, nature hikes, and graduations. She always encouraged her grandsons and was so pleased to see them pursuing their dreams.

Alfene was a woman of deep faith and integrity who loved Jesus and serving others. She cherished her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in leadership capacities in the children's and women's ministries, taught adult gospel and scripture classes, and directed choirs and musical programs.

Her last chapter here brought aging challenges and ultimately Alzheimer's disease. She met these tests with grit and grace and continued to teach us empathy, patience, and love. We express deep gratitude to the loving caregivers and staff at the Auberge at Aspen Park.

Alfene is survived by son Mike (Sheri) Page, Park City, Utah; daughter Amy (Doug) Christiansen, Nashville, Tennessee; three grandsons Ethan (Lindsey) Christiansen, Andrew Christiansen, and Nick Page; and great granddaughter Peyton Christiansen. She was lovingly welcomed on the other side by her husband, Tom; son, Danny; parents, Henry and June; sister June Ann and brother-in-law Rulon Bailey; and brother Gray and sister-in-law Carolyn.

A joyous farewell to Alfene will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 4335 W 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah. Reception and Visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with Celebration of Life at 10:30 a.m. and Graveside Dedication immediately following. Guests are invited to wear any splash of green, Alfene's favorite color. In lieu of flowers, please support your local school or library, or help someone in her honor. We will miss Alfene's presence and delight that her memory, wisdom, and love will live on in the countless lives she touched.
