Samuel Cooke Reynolds, age 91, a lifelong resident of Carlisle, Kentucky, passed away on May 15, 2019, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Dr. B. F. Reynolds, Jr., and Virginia Cooke Reynolds. Sam was born on Eastern Avenue, in Carlisle, on September 15, 1927. He had lived at his home at 317 Sycamore Street since he was 18 months old. He was a 1946 graduate of Carlisle High School and married his high school sweetheart, Bobbie, in 1952. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1955 as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Tech. For 39 years, he worked at the Bluegrass Army Depot, in Lexington, as a Supply Systems Analyst for Logistics Readiness Command. He served 31 years in the Army Reserve and Kentucky National Guard, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. Preserving the farm that has been in his family since 1874 was his lifelong project. The Reynolds Spring Farm, on Lower Jackstown Road, was both a joy and a headache, but always a source of pride.

He was a member of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, deacon and trustee. Mr. Sam served on the Nicholas County Water Board, Carlisle Cemetery Board, Southern States Board, Carlisle Planning and Zoning Commission and Nicholas County Farm Bureau Board. He was past president of the Central Kentucky Foxhunters Association and the Kentucky State Foxhunters Association.

He is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Bobbie Doyle Reynolds; three children, Lisa A. Reynolds, of Carlisleand Phoenix, Arizona, Sam Cooke Reynolds, Jr. (Frankie), of Carlisle, and Virginia Lynn Reynolds, of Lexington; two grandchildren, Mary Beth Reynolds (Jeremy Matthews) and Samuel Cooke Reynolds, III, of Carlisle; and a sister, Eleanor Verdery, of Stone Mountain, Georgia. He was preceded in death by: a sister, Susanna Reynolds Vutsas; and a brother, B. F. "Frank" Reynolds, III.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at Carlisle Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 20, at the church, with burial in Carlisle Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Samuel Reynolds, III, Jeremy Matthews, Jeremiah Stinnett, Billy R. Doyle, Andrew Whirles and Mike Warner. Honorary pall bearers are Bill Cash, Hunter Hess, Fred Burnaw, John Fuller, Robert Garvin, Billy B. Doyle, Kenneth Ishmael, Roscoe Higginbotham and Bobby Snapp. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be sent to: Carlisle Presbyterian Church; or Bluegrass Care Navigators, 1317 US Highway 62 East, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031. Carlisle-Clark Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
