James P. Osewalt, 80, of West Decatur died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at his residence.

Born March 6, 1929, at Philipsburg, he was a son of Preston and Edna (Eboch) Osewalt.

Mr. Osewalt was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, West Decatur.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a corporal and was classified as a sharpshooter on the 30 M1 Carbine.

Mr. Osewalt owned and operated Osewalt Septic Service and retired in 2003.

On June 16, 1949, at Philipsburg, he wed Shirley J. Shimmel, who died Sept. 22, 1998.

He is survived by a daughter, Charlene Walk and her husband, Duane, of Farmdale, Ohio; two sons, James Osewalt Jr. and Milton Osewalt, all of West Decatur; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Jean Osewalt of Philipsburg.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Osewalt was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Margaret "Peg" Shirokey, Helen Louise English and Mary Lou Mellot; and a brother Harold Osewalt.

Funeral services will be private, with the Rev. Brent Salsgiver officiating.

Interment will be at Reidy Cemetery, Wallaceton.

There will be no public visitation.

Military honors will be accorded at the funeral service by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor guard.

Strange and Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale, is in charge of the arrangements.
