Katie Sue Light-Smith---30 April, 1939 - 2 December, 2019 Katie Sue was the daughter of Euel L. Light and A. Irene Turley-Light of Walnut Grove, Alabama. She was married to the late William E. Hays of Blount County, Alabama, with whom she had two children: Deborah M. Hays and Kenneth W. Hays. Mrs. Smith and her children were residents of Birmingham. She later married her loving husband of thirty three years, James A. Smith of Blount County, Alabama. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, her children, and her sister, Mildred Parrish of Glencoe, Alabama. Katie Sue was a devoted wife and mother and a person of unwavering faith. She was a limitless source of wisdom and compassion. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Katie Sue came from a large family. Her brothers and sisters that preceded her in death were: Dallas Light, Orlean Light-Elrod, Keith Light, Jim Light, Modean Light, Aadron Light, Anne Light-Elrod, Virginia E. Light-Campbell, and Martha Light. Mrs. Smith is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, which are too many to list. Katie Sue loved reading her Bible, gardening and making her lawn beautiful. She was also known to be an exceptional cook. She loved the Thanksgiving-Christmas holidays as this was a time for music, good food, decorations, family fellowship and a period of generous good will toward others.

Katie Sue loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a long-time member of Eastmont Baptist Church and, for the last few years, was a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church in Hayden, Alabama.

A celebration of life visitation for Katie will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A celebration of life service will occur Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. An entombment will occur at Oakwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 2100 Moncrief Road, Gardendale, Alabama 35071. with Reverend Aaron Cook of Mountain Brook Baptist Church in Hayden, Al. and Robert Smith of Northpark Baptist Church, Trussville officiating.

Katie Sue installed a very deep sense of morality and high conscience in her children. She also had a remarkable sense of humor and loved to teach the simplest lessons through laughter.
