Willa Jean May, 85 of Shady Spring, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2019 after a courageous battle with Leukemia.
Willa was born on September 24, 1934 at Flat Top, WV and was the daughter of the late Fred and Willie Moye Maddy.
She was an Honor Graduate of Hinton High School and was a 17 year employee of the Raleigh County Board of Education, last serving as Head Cook at Shady Spring Junior High.
Willa was a devoted member of Perry Memorial United Methodist Church in Shady Spring where her passion was serving desserts at the monthly Shepherd’s Table community meal and helping the residents at Raleigh Rehab in Daniels play Bingo.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leo and her son Michael.
She is survived by her sister Betty (Lee) Patton of Bluefield, WV; her children, David (Diane) May of Sevierville, TN, Susan (Michael) Winston of Shady Spring, WV, Jean Woodrum (Ken Renchko) of New Alexandria, PA, John (Janie) May of Kodak, TN, and Jimmy (Ruth) May of Cool Ridge, WV. She is also survived by grandchildren, Chris (Bridget) May, Lynnette May, Steven (Amy) Winston, J.C. May, Aaron (Amanda) May, Rhea May, and Catherine May; Great Grandchildren, Emma Nunley, Natalie Winston, Connor Winston, Devan Oglesby, Colin May and Dillon May.
Her children would like to thank the 4th Floor Oncology Staff at Princeton Community Hospital, and Dr. Rowena Chambers for their exceptional care and kindness over the last few months.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Rev. Rick Crawford officiating. She will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Chris, J.C., and Aaron May, Steven Winston, and sons-in-law Michael Winston and Ken Renchko.
