A lifetime Presbyterian, he was recently granted the title of Elder Emeritus; he was a 50 year Elder, previously Trustee of the Minden Presbyterian Church, Sunday school superintendent, youth director, and chairman of the boy scout committee. He was a member of the Minden Lions Club, Webster Parish Insurance Exchange, and Blue Goose International. For more than 50 years, Mr. James was active in the home mortgage and insurance business and was owner of Security Home Mortgage Corporation, and formerly of Patrons Insurance Agency, Minden. In the late 1940's he was an insurance adjuster in Shreveport with the General Adjustment Bureau, and opened the Minden office in 1953. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a life member of the American Legion.
Born in Ruston, he was a grandson of Benjamin and Elizabeth Lewis James, and son of David James, Sr. and Mary Davidson James. A graduate of Louisiana Tech, he was a member of Theta Kappa Nu, now Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He did post graduate work at the University of Houston, and at schools in Dallas-Ft. Worth.
Predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Jane Bogard James; and his sisters, Elizabeth James McLaughlin, Ruth James, and Sara James Correll. He is survived by his daughter Margaret James Washburn and her husband Walt Washburn, Knoxville, TN, by his son David James III and his wife Barbara Simons James, Humble, TX; and one granddaughter Laura Howard Cornwell and her husband Stephen R. Cornwell, and their daughter Marlana Cornwell, Carson, CA; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews; including a special niece, Mary McLaughlin Aikman, Kilgore, TX; and a special cousin Nick Blount and his wife Amanda Blount, Minden.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that any memorials be made to the Minden Presbyterian Church, 1001 Broadway, Minden, LA 71055, Grace Home Hospice, 1035 Margaret Place, Shreveport, LA 71101, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
