He graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1962. Shortly after high school, Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy. He served four years in active duty during Vietnam and then served a total of 30 years in the reserves. Chuck earned a degree from IUPUI, Ivy Tech, and Indiana State University. He also received his Inspector Pressure Vessel Commission. A hard-working man, he worked as a mechanical engineer at Indianapolis Power and Light from 1965-1980 and at Allison Transmissions from 1980-1999.
Chuck married the love of his life and best friend, Jeanne E. Stubbe, on June 29th, 1975. Together they had three children and shared over 44 years of marriage. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, visiting railroad museums, attending motorcycle gatherings, and woodworking. An avid Harley Davidson rider, Chuck has been riding motorcycles for over 40 years.
He was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge #615 in Waverly, a member of the Murat Shriners in Indianapolis, and a member of the American Legion Post #230 in Martinsville. He was a lifelong member of the Mt. Olive Methodist Church.
He leaves behind his loving family including his wife, Jeanne Ritter of Martinsville; sons, Charles Keith Ritter Jr. of Indianapolis and William James Ritter of Gosport; daughter, Lisa Ann (husband, Greg) Wyatt of Indianapolis; brothers, James Ritter and David (wife, Connie) Ritter both of Indianapolis; sister, Cheri (wife, Jazz) Ritter of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Alex Wyatt, Jacob Wyatt, and Katie Sanders; and great grandchildren, Ayden Wyatt.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, December 8th, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and on Monday, December 9th, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the chapel at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. A masonic service will immediately follow visitation on Sunday beginning at 4:00 pm. A funeral service celebrating Chuck’s life will begin at 2:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest with military honors in Nebo Memorial Park in Martinsville following the service.
