Rachel Edwards, 89, Rockford, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019, in her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 13, 1930, in Friendship, TN, the daughter of Leslie and Virginia Yarbrough. She married James P. Edwards, Sr. on November 1, 1947, in Jackson, MS. He passed away in Rockford on January 7, 2000. Rachel retired from National Lock Company after many years. She was a longtime member of Kishwaukee Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She attended 20th Street Missionary Baptist Church. Rachel was a cherished mother and grandmother and devoted her life to her family.
She is survived by her children, James (Carol) Edwards Jr. of Rockford, Barbara (Alan) Kubinski of Winthrop Harbor, and Jack (Laura) Edwards of Rockford; her grandchildren, Jaime (Mark), Jillian, Leah (Aaron), Jada, Jack, and James; her great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Elijah, Sylvie and Norah; her sister, Lilly Smith, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
