Elsie May Anderson
February 27, 1934 ~ November 21, 2019 (age 85)
Elsie passed away November 21st in the presence of her son and daughter in Wetaskiwin Hospital Long Term Care Unit at the age of 85. Born in Pouce Coupe, BC, Elsie completed Grade 11 at Western Canada High in Calgary. She married Richard Emerson Haswell December 12th 1954 then moved to Saskatchewan where they had 3 children, before settling in Edmonton. In time, Elsie remarried to Floyd Anderson in Nov. of 1976. Her journey took her to Rainbow Lake in northern Alberta, then back to Edmonton, divorcing Floyd in 1989. Sometime after this, she returned to her roots in Wetaskiwin. Elsie (mom) was a free spirit with a love of music, coming from a very musical family. She played piano and steel guitar, and had a beautiful voice. She enjoyed singing 3-part harmony with sisters Lorraine and Marjorie. She could light up a room or a party, and dance up a storm. Her sense of humor was a blessing to all she encountered, but watch out for that Irish temper. As a loving mother and nurturing grandmother, Elsie is survived by her 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Lillian Marshall and Lorraine Wolf, and by her parents: mother Isabel (Cameron) and father Thomas McNainy, who was born in Durham, England. He moved to Canada as a baby and resided in the Bassano area of Alberta. A special “Thank You” to Wetaskiwin Hospital LTC staff, Unit 33 who provided much love and care for Elsie in the last 5 years of her life. Elsie’s remains were cremated and a celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2020 with family and friends. She will be placed in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Edmonton along with family. In memory of Elsie, you can donate to: Alberta Division of Canadian Mental Health (Edmonton Region).
