Fisher Funeral Home Inc Obituary
Roger Harmon Reid, 86, passed away in his home on March 14, 2016. He was born in Irene, South Dakota in 1930 to George and Nell (Harmon) Reid. He was the youngest of three sons, joining brothers Robert and Richard. In 1934 the family moved to Albany, where his father established The Reid Veterinary practice. He graduated from Albany High School in 1948. He played basketball, and was one of the star pitchers on the teams that twice played in the State Tournament. He joined the Army Reserves following graduation. Roger attended Oregon State College for one year. He transferred to the University of Oregon, graduating with a degree in history in 1953, and from the University of Oregon school of law in 1956.

Following graduation from law school, he moved to Montana to work as a land-man for Exxon Oil Company. Roger returned to Albany in 1960 and started his private law practice, which he continued until he became ill in December 2015. Roger was a member of the Oregon State Bar for over 50 years. He belonged to the Albany Chamber of Commerce, Albany Kiwanis, the Albany Elks Club, the Albany Masonic Lodge, and the Al Kader Shrine Club. He was active in St. Alban's Episcopal Church and the Albany Tennis Club. He was a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Albany Mennonite Home and helped with the organization of the Evergreen Hospice. In 1975, Roger married Sharon Ransom Lowry. They enjoyed traveling together and were fortunate to see much of the world. Roger loved to fish, but the best times were watching their children and grandchildren's athletic events when not coaching his sons' basketball and baseball teams. The grandchildren learned to listen patiently to Grandpa's coaching even if he had never personally played their particular sport.

Roger is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Forrest (Shelley), Richard (Liisa), of Albany; Roger (Debbie), of Sherwood, step- daughter Suzi Day (Adam) of San Diego, step-son Michael Lowry of Albany, brother Dr. Dick Reid of Albany, sisters-in-law Sandra Camarillo of San Diego and Elvira Reid of Greeley, CO. Grandchildren Nathan, Remington, Christian, Hannah, Rhyan, Josie, Annelise, MacKenzie, Thomas and Addison and special family friends, David and Julie Cale, Ellie, Jane, and Michael and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dr. Bob Reid and sister-in-law Jeannette Reid. Roger loved life, sharing stories, and making new friends. His smile and wave from his little white pick-up truck will be greatly missed by many. A celebration of Roger's life will be April 1, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Albany, with Father Robert Morrison of St. Alban's Episcopal Church officiating. Remembrances can be made to St. Alban's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, the Albany Boys & Girls Club, or Evergreen Hospice, sent in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. SW, Albany, OR 97321.
