Billy King Wise, Sr., known to many of us as “Uncle Billy”, was called home on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. He was born March 31, 1941, in Crockett County, Tennessee, the second of three children born to the late Andrew Wise, Jr. and Ellie (Cook) Wise Fields. Even though he lost his father at a very early age, he was fortunate to be raised by a very loving, caring, and supportive stepfather, Robert Fields. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Porter’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member until his death.

“Uncle Billy” attended the public schools of Crockett County and graduated from Central High School in 1959. He later moved to Brooklyn, New York where he worked and lived for 47 years. He retired from Amtrak after 25 years of service, 19 of them as a Supervisor at Penn Station. In New York he had a number of interests, one of which he was very dedicated to – The United Supreme Council of his Masonic Order, where he was Master Mason having attained the Rank of the 32nd Degree. He was also a member of the Order of The Eastern Star. He retired and returned to Tennessee in 2005.

He was a very loyal and dedicated father to 6 children - Mary Evelyn Porter, Huntingdon, TN; Beverly Capers, Brooklyn, NY; Lorene (Kristian) Jenkins, Augusta, GA; Francene (James) Cornelius, Milan, TN; ; Billy King (Janice) Wise,Jr., Greensboro, NC; and Andrew Wise, Jamaica, NY; 10 grandchildren – Jerome Porter,Paris, TN; Jeremy (Keonnia) Porter,Milan, TN; Jelinda Porter,Jackson, TN; Kenya Tyree and Latoyria Burgess, Augusta, GA; Katrina Gray, Jackson, TN; Aaron Wise, Washington, DC; Benaiah Wise, Charlotte, NC; Aaqila Wise, Richmond, VA; and Camara Wise, Greensboro, NC. In addition to his 6 children and 10 grand children, he leaves to cherish his memory, 9 great-grandchildren; two loving sisters – Vesta R. Conner, Memphis, TN, and Bobbie Johnson, Jamaica, New York; a dearly loved 103 yr-old aunt, Marion Watkins of Humboldt, TN; a devoted and very special friend of 13 years, Monola Patterson, Jackson, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew Wise, Jr., Ellie Wise Fields, Robert Fields, and his wife, Alice (Capers) Wise.
