At an early age, Jesse left Mississippi and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, seeking a better life through gainful employment. Later, he moved to Toledo, Ohio, and found employment at Honeywell, Incorporate. He remained at Honeywell until his retirement, when he returned to Mississippi and worked cutting timber and logs.
Jesse was a happy man with a smooth disposition. He never met a stranger because his conversation was appealing to everyone he met, young or aged. Following a brief illness, Jesse's name was called to receive his crown in glory on October 8, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Katie Coach and Jessie Louise Applewhite; and his brother, Willie Ed Harris.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Connie (James) Jones of Toledo, Ohio; three sisters, Pattie Applewhite, Hartford, Connecticut, Essie L. Johnson, Greenville, Mississippi, and Pearlie Mae Ellis, Durant, Mississippi; three brothers, Glen (Carrie) Harris, Louis Harris, and James Arthur Harris, all of Greenville, Mississippi, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
