Roy T. Holmes, 83, of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Davis Hospice Center.

Roy was born on the family farm in Baylis, Illinois on April 3, 1936 to George and Jessie Holmes. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1954.

After high school, he served in the United States Airforce. When stationed in Cheyenne he met and married Rena (Williams) on February 12, 1956. Following his honorable discharge, he moved his young family back to the family farm in Illinois and bought a garage where he was a mechanic and drove the wrecker and oil truck.

In 1962, due to Rena’s health, the family returned to Cheyenne. Roy operated heavy equipment and was a master mechanic. Roy was a lead mechanic at Cowboy Dodge. In 1973 Roy started the diesel mechanic program at LCCC where he was an instructor until he retired in 1991.

Roy, along with brothers-in-law, Bob and Bill Williams, joined the Air National Guard and together they served several more years for our country.

When at LCCC Roy and good friend, Bob Boyd, formed B & H Farm Service. Roy’s other hobbies and interested included restoring antique cars and tractors. Roy has always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends fishing, hunting, traveling and took great pride in his yard.

Roy treasured his memberships and friendships in the Antique Tractor Club, Oak Spokes, and Shrine Club.

Roy is survived by his sons, Ron Holmes and Rick Holmes; daughter, Rita (Rod) Helgeson; grandchildren, William (Karri) Holmes, Sabrena Holmes, Michael Holmes, Hailee (Josh) Lumbardo, Ryan (Nina) Helgeson and Rebecca (Austin) Breckenridge; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley (Holmes) Kembel. He also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces and great friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rena, of 59 years; a son, Russell Holmes; his parents; brother, John Walterscheid; and sisters, Lois (Holmes) Crawford and Marcella (Holmes) Oldfield.
