A native of Person County, he was the husband of Lorraine McPherson Allen, who survives and the son of Newman Samuel Allen, Sr. and Lorraine Long Allen Thornton, both deceased.
Reade was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and was co-owner of Floor Masters, enjoying a life-long career in the floor covering business.
As a member of First Baptist Church of Graham, Reade served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and was a member of the chancel and handbell choirs. He was a current member of the Burlington Luncheon Club and was a former member of the Alamance Chorale and Graham Jaycees.
Reade’s greatest joy was time with his immediate and extended family and friends. He was a gentleman farmer who loved gardening and tending his small farm. A passionate Bluegrass fan, his travels with the Bass Mountain Boys were one of the highlights of his life.
In addition to his wife of their home, Reade is survived by a son, Michael Reade Allen and wife Patty of Graham and daughters, Melissa Allen Brown of Graham and Julie Allen Pack and husband Kevin of Liberty; brother Newman Samuel “Sammy” Allen, Jr. of Clover, SC; 10 grandchildren, Reade, Kelly Mae, Rebekah Anne, Sawyer and Laura Lea Allen, Mikayla, Mick and Millie Brown, Taylor and Mason Pack: a brother-in-law, David McPherson of Raleigh; and a sister-in-law, Sue McPherson Brownson of Lakewood, CO.
A service to celebrate his life will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Graham on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Chris Howe and Rev. Shannon Hall with the family receiving friends immediately following the service in the Ministry Center.
