He and his wife Joan and their children enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, dominoes, Chinese checkers and stock car racing. One of the favorite family activities was seeing how many words they could make from one larger word. They loved camping. Omar also enjoyed fishing and working in his yard. As a youngster, Omar played ice hockey on the pond at the Upland Lions Club park and skated up the brick streets to get hot chocolate. He was a big fan of IU Basketball.
He retired from the Owens Illinois after 40 years, when the plant closed. He also worked at Foster Forbes and Pierce Governor. As a youngster he worked at the Canning factory. He also worked at the hassock factory.
Omar is survived by his daughters and sons – Pam Roush (Terry), Ann Parker (Mike), Mike Jones, and Mark Jones (Lauri) – and his grandchildren, Channing Roush(Monica), Tara Roush, Michael Parker, Melissa Burke (Rob), Braden Jones (Danielle) and Preston Jones (Karli), Chelsie Matchette (Jared), Kyle Shafer (Emily), and Kayla Lollar (Jerad); and great grandchildren Ledare, Mills and Lawson Roush, Wyatt and Zayda Burke, Callahan and Monroe Jones, Finley Matchette, Baileigh, Kaelan, and Madelyn Shafer.
Omar was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joan Jones and his parents Harry and Bertha Wycoff Jones as well as his brothers Hiram and Charles Jones and his sisters Mildred Street, Loretta Campbell and Edna Townsend. Omar was the youngest of the six children.
Visitation will be held from 11 am-1pm, Friday, December 6 at the Pierce United Methodist Church 201 N. Eighth St, Upland. The funeral will be at 1:00pm, at the church, with Pastor Evan Guse officiating. Burial will be follow in Jefferson Cemetery.
