A native of Washington, D.C., and a resident of El Reno from 1957 to 1962, Eleanor Smith Bogan died peacefully July 4 with family by her side, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born Jan. 26, 1919, she grew up in Washington, D.C., and attended public schools there. She graduated from Wilson Teachers College in D.C. in 1940. In 1941 she married Joe Bogan, and from 1946 to 1972 she supported her husband's career in the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Mr. and Mrs. Bogan lived in El Reno from 1957 to 1962. He was associate warden at the Federal Correctional Insti-tution, and she was an English teacher at Etta Dale Junior High School. The Bogans also lived in Kentucky, Colorado and California before returning to the Washington, D.C., area in 1969. She was a teacher in four states.
After her husband died in 1984, Mrs. Bogan continued an active lifestyle. In 1997 she moved to a retirement facility in Annapolis until it was necessary to move to Fort Worth to be near family, due to declining health. She was a mother and grandmother, homemaker, reader, writer, romantic, traveler, gardener, collector of paperweights and aficionado of bridge and crossword puzzles. She wrote an autobiographical collection of stories about her life titled "What Have You Done, Grandma?"
She is survived by her daughter, Tish Bogan Ozmun and husband, Jon Ozmun of Flagstaff, Ariz., and son, Joe Bogan III and wife, Jane Vickers Bogan of Fort Worth. All but Mrs. Bogan are graduates of El Reno High School. She is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Bogan will be interred by her husband in the Fort Lincoln Mausoleum, Brentwood, Md. Memorial services will be held for family in Fort Worth and Flagstaff.
