This obituary is from the Press Enterprise Tuesday, December 3, 2019, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania
Rachel S. (Derby) Hess
Longtime Wise Potato Chip Co. employee
Rachel S. (Derby) Hess, 60, of Berwick passed away on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she had been a patient since Wednesday. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Berwick on Jan. 6, 1959, she was a daughter of Mary R. (Dewald) Derby of Berwick and the late Andress B. Derby.
She was a graduate of Columbia Montour Vo-Tech’s Class of 1978, and went on to earn associate’s degrees in computer science and medical coding from Luzerne County Community College. For 34 years, she was employed at Wise Potato Chips, Berwick. She enjoyed her job and the people she worked with.
Rachel was a member of the Red Hat Society. She liked fishing, UTV riding, baking and crafts. She spent many hours decorating each year for Christmas. Although some would say she was a “dog person”, she really loved beagles, especially her two, “Ghost” and “Penny.” She was a wonderful “Mimi” to her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
In addition to her mother, she will be greatly missed by her husband of 16 years, Kevin L. Hess; sons: Corey Milheim and wife Michelle, Berwick, Chase Milheim and wife Samantha, Berwick; two grandchildren: Ryan and Raegan Milheim; five step-grandchildren: Camden, Jaxson, Fantasha and Richie Welsh and Riley Norquest. She also leaves behind sisters: Ruth Butrej and husband Terry, Northumberland, Jane Derby and husband Randy Porter, Magnolia, Texas; brother, Daniel Derby and wife Mary, Anchorage, Alaska; several nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, at Heller Funeral Home LLC, 633 E. Third St., Nescopeck. Interment will follow in Old River Road Cemetery, Wapwallopen. Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Animal Resource Center, P.O. Box 439, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
