Misty Ellen Brooks, 33, of Ghent died on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Misty died from heart complications due to drug abuse. She attended Shady Spring High School. She could brighten any room all while fighting her own inner demons. For many years, she fought a heroic battle with addiction. Her disease had a powerful hold on her. We wished she had seen the beauty and strength that everyone else saw in her. She fought like a warrior till the end. Addiction, however, won the battle. Misty never judged anyone and she opened her heart to everyone. She never wanted to be defined by her addictions and mistakes. She was more than that. She was very open about her struggles and now should not be the time to change that. Misty wanted to live. She had hopes, dreams, she was such a free spirit; but she couldn’t break the chains of this demon that’s wiping out our generation.

Misty was born June 24, 1986 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Brooks (1952-2011), formerly of Wayne, WV; her maternal grandparents, Calvin Trail (1933-2014) and Dorothy Trail (1933-2007), formerly of Shady Spring; and her paternal grandparents, Verlie Brooks (1925-1996) and Ruth Frasher-Brooks (1925-1992), formerly of Wayne.
