MOCKSVILLE– Mr. John Robert Butero, 82, of East Maple Avenue, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019.
He was born April 23, 1937 to the late John and Anna Hotzak Butero in New York City, New York.
Mr. Butero was well-known in Mocksville because of his position as Assistant Director for Davie County Communications, where he retired after 30 years. Before he was a dispatcher, he spent nearly 20 years as Director at WDSL, where he went by “Johnny Roberts.” He also served six years in the Army Reserve and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Crystal Butero; and a niece, Karla Osborne.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lela Jones Butero, of the home; two sons, John Edward Butero (Paula), and Michael Jeffrey Butero (Donna), all of Mocksville; two granddaughters, Christina and Ashley; a great-granddaughter, Ellie Layell; a sister-in-law, Joanne Osborne (Karl); a niece, Amanda Osborne; and two nephews, Joey and Charlie Osborne.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Nolan Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Eaton Funeral Home.
