She was born November 8, 1931 in Poplar Bluff, the daughter of Russell and Inez Gaines Proffer. They preceded her in death.
Margaret was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School in the class of 1948. She married Teddy Joe Cross on February 14, 1948 in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2006.
She worked and managed The General Baptist Book store for several years. She enjoyed fishing, reading, and gardening. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and never missed her grandchildren's events. She was a founding member and Matriarch of Westside Church of God. Westside began in April of 1964 and held it's first service in the basement of Margaret and Ted's home.
Margaret is survived by her two sons, Larry Cross and his wife Mary of Poplar Bluff and Laddie Cross of Farmington, MO; six grandchildren, Matthew and wife Tori Cross, Laura and husband Howard Blalock, Russell and wife Andrea Cross, Jason Langley, Elizabeth Daugherty, and Sarah Cross; fourteen great-grandchildren, Ashton, Jacob, and Sophia Cross, Hunter, Noah, and Nate Blalock, Lex and Lydia Cross, Brooke Langley, Gavin Cross, Conner Daugherty, Blake and Landon Cross, and Kingston Cross-Martinez; one sister, Sue Sells and husband Paul of Poplar Bluff; two sister-in-laws, Jeanie Proffer of Poplar Bluff and Linda Hunot and husband Jim of Valles Mines, MO; several loving nieces, nephews, a very loving and caring church family, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Norma Tipton; and their favorite brother, Jerry Proffer.
Visitation will be Friday, February 8, 2019 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, February 9, 2019 in the Moore Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Jason Jordan and Reverend Bob Featherston.
Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
