Mr. Barry, 82, of Rochester, died Monday (April 11, 2005) at Rochester Methodist Hospital from complications of cancer.
Born Sept. 24, 1922, in Waseca, Minn., he graduated from Waseca High School. He served in the Air Force during World War II and graduated with a law degree from the University of Minnesota in 1949. Also in 1949, he married Dorismae Hemstock in Rochester; she died in 1981. He was employed with Standard Oil of Indiana in La Crosse, Wis. He joined Hirman Insurors in 1950 and retired in 1997 as vice president.
He was an Eagle Scout and, during his early years in Rochester, was active in Jaycees. He was president of S.E. Minnesota Regional Insurance Association, past president of Rochester March of Dimes, chairman of Olmsted County Safety Association, and past president of Rochester Exchange Club. He was a member of Rochester Lodge 21, served as treasurer and received the Hiram Award. He was a Scottish Rite 33 Degree Mason and active in Osman Shrine as a Merry Medic. He was in the Red Cross of Constitine, St. George Conclave, Duluth and the Royal Order of Scotland. He served on the Masonic Cancer Center Board of Directors. He was a longtime member of Calvary Episcopal Church, served on the vestry and sang in the choir for 53 years.
Survivors include a son, Craig of Lanesboro; a daughter, Ginny Barry of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Raymond (Joanne) of Bloomington, Minn.; and longtime friend, Sue Rothschild of Rochester. He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call for an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
