Mr. Raymond Loyd Higgins, age 78 of Cookeville, died Sunday evening, December 1st at Bethesda Health Care Center.

He was born November 8, 1941 in Putnam County to the late Raymond Claude and Mattie Lou Willoughby Higgins.

He served in the US Navy for four years and in the Reserve for two years.

He worked in several factories and on the interstate as I-40 was built. He retired in 2004 from Tutco.

He loved fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle with his friends.

Ray was a member of the Monterey Methodist Church and currently attended Scott Ave. Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alma Ruth and Nancy Carolyn.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betty Lou Higgins; children, Kerry (Rhonda) Higgins, Sheila (Dave) Redman, Sherry (Matt) Derossitt and step children, Carolyn (James) Harris, Thomas (Debbie) Buttram, Bobby (Cherie) Buttram, Kenny (Holly) Buttram, Sara Williams, Donna (Steve) Robinson; grandchildren, Miranda, Tanner, DK, Damen, Gracie, Lauren, Justin, Daniel, Dustin, David, Brad, Amanda, Brooke, Ashley, Cheyenne, Deidra, Cory, Dena, Joe, Shawna; great grandchildren, Charlie Kate, Judah, Eli and Mallory.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 4th at 1:00 p.m. at Dyer Funeral Home. Interment followed in Davis Cemetery. Rev. Steve Brown officiated.
