A Portage resident for 35 years, formerly of Columbia City and Peru, Indiana. She was a 1951 graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Mexico, Indiana and a 1955 graduate of Ball State Teachers College and she obtained her
Masters Degree from Purdue University in 1960. She was a retired Physical Education Teacher employed by Portage Township School where she taught at Portage High School for 33 years. She was a member of the Perrysburg Baptist
Church. She was a retired member of the AAHPERD, IAHPERD, ICGSA, ISIA, NEA, PIA and the Calumet Athletic Officials Association. She was an Indiana High School Athletic Association Volley Ball Official, officiating 5 times at the Indiana High School Volley Ball State Championship. She was also the recipient of the 1983 Indiana High School Basketball Coach of the Year Award, the 1983 Indiana High School Physical Educator of the Year Award and the 1987 ICGSA Marian Archer Award. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She retired in 1993 from Portage High School as the head of the Physical Education Department.
Surviving are three sisters, Bobette Miller of Macy, Indiana, Belva (Bud) Cull of Modesto, California and Barbara (Harlan) Long of Carmel, Indiana; her companion friend, Margaret Kelly of Portage; several nephews and nieces;
one uncle, Myron Knauff of Valparaiso and two aunts, Alta Plunkitt of Indianapolis and Edna Mink of Frankfurt, Indiana.
Funeral services held at Engel Funeral Home. Interment in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN.
