James Willard Browning of Griffithsville was born Feb. 9, 1926, and passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at The Arbors at Marietta, Marietta, Ohio, at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 8 days.
He was a son of the late James Scott and Violette Carrie Reynolds Browning.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a retired meter technician from Pennzoil Gas Fields and a member of Teamsters Local 175 and American Legion Post 111, Hamlin.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Virgil and Everett Browning.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gladys Richmond Browning; one son, Kevin Browning of South Charleston; one daughter, Dianna Smith of Griffithsville; three brothers, John Browning of Spanway, Wash., Henson Browning of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jerry Browning of Ravenswood; three sisters, Thelma Browning of Hamlin, Dolly Davis of Paris, Ky., and Betty Woodall of Hamlin; three grandchildren, Josh Browning, Michael Browning and Jamie Smith, all of Griffithsville; and one great-granddaughter, Emilee Bailey of Rixford, Pa.
James was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time at his camp in Hardy County with friends, Alan, Joyce, Danny and Mildred, and special dog, Gadget.
Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at Koontz Funeral Home, Hamlin, with the Rev. Oshel Bell and the Rev. Roe Smith officiating.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
