cause of death: pneumonia"W. H. Marchant passed away this morning at 9:45 of nervous prostration.He was taken sick about eight weeks ago with pneumonia from which he suffered about three weeks. He was born in Niagara, Canada, and was about 44 years of age. Mr. Marchant lived for some years in London, Canada, and removed to Kalamazoo in 1885. He was one of the best known musicians in the city giving lessons both in voice culture and on wind instruments. He had been associated with W. S. White in the band business for many years and had been the leader of several of the bands in the city. He was the teacher of the Comstock, the Richland, and the Oshtemo bands. Mr. Marchant was also the leader of the First M. E. church choir the most of the time of his life in Kalamazoo. He was a devoted member of the M. E. church, a Christian gentleman and had many friends. Mr. Marchant was a member of one of the I.O.O.F. lodges."--Kalamazoo Daily Telegraph, 9 Mar 1896, page 2, par. 3
