Daughter of Johannes Grift (1845 - 1915) and his wife Cornelia (née Roeten, 1847 - 1920)

Arrived in Canada in May of 1911 with her sister, Reijerte, her brother-in-law, Cornelius Vandersteen, and several other members of the Grift and Vandersteen families.

An account of her life and that of her family as pioneers in the Marble Ridge / Fisher Branch area of Manitoba is available in the local history captured in the book "A Place of Our Own - A History of Fisher Branch and surrounding towns" (1982), pp 386 to 389
