Darwin Symms, enlisted in the U.S. Cavalry on August 25, 1875 as Private, Company 1, occupation Clerk. He died at the age of 25 with General Custer at the Battle of the Little Big Horn on June 25, 1876. His body was buried on Last Stand Hill in Montana but he is also mentioned on the family monument in Burr Oak, Iowa. In 1872 he was united in marriage to Isabell Smith in Ossian, Iowa.
