Janice Freeman Patterson was born May 3, 1934 to parents John and Sue Proctor Freeman (now deceased) in Lake Lure, North Carolina. Janice was the baby of the Freeman household and was preceded in death by 19 siblings.

She was one of two remaining siblings until we lost her to the enemy death on Friday, November 29, 2019.

Janice was at Oak Grove Healthcare Center in Rutherfordton when she passed.

In addition to the skilled care from the staffs of Oak Grove and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, particularly Amanda Ray, she also received loving care and attention from her special niece and nephew, Velma Waters and Dale Logan.

Janice was educated in North Carolina, completing her education with a BS degree from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. After university she was employed at first as a teacher, then as a social worker.

In 1956 she moved to New York City where she met and married Joseph Patterson in December 1970.

Janice retired as an instructor with the Bergen County (New Jersey) School System and also worked for a number of companies in New York City as a Financial Manager. When they retired early in 2000, they moved to Marion, North Carolina. Janice lost Joe in February 2012 but continued to reside in their home until October 7, 2019.

She is survived by one sibling, Dr. Stephen Paul Freeman, many nieces and nephews and a step-daughter, Janice Patterson who will all miss her greatly.
