ALTA FAY PARSONS JESTER

Alta Fay Jester, a resident of Galesburg, IL, died on Wednesday, May 28, 2003, in the Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She moved from Kansas City, MO, to Galesburg in July 2000. She was born July 15, 1911, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Charles and Clara Parsons, She was married to Harry Leigh Jester on January 21, 1934, in Paola, KS. He died April 17, 1988. Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Shelby Leigh Jester of Wichita, KS; son Charles William Jester and his wife Lana of Dahinda, IL; granddaughter Haley Jester of Lenexa, KS, and granddaughter Heather Jester Foster and her husband John Foster of Lee s Summit, MO; and two greatgrandsons, John Charles Foster and Owen Harrison Foster.

She worked for 25 years for the US Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1980. She had also been a kindergarten teacher in the Raytown School District in the early 1950 s. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, IL, having transferred her membership from the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church in Raytown, MO, after moving to Illinois, and Phi Tau Omega sorority. She was an accomplished pianist and played professionally all her life. Her early experience was playing piano accompaniment to silent films in theaters in Kansas City in the 1920 s.

A memorial service was held on May 30, 2003, in Galesburg, IL. Her ashes will be interred after a graveside service in Memorial Park Cemetery, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, MO, at 3 p.m. on November 29, 2003. A reception will follow. The family requests no flowers and suggests memorial donations in her name to the First United Methodist Church, 120 N. Kellogg, Galesburg, IL, 61401.
