Wendall was a SeaBee in the US Navy during WWII. He helped build the Wilder Dam, just south of Hanover, NH. He then worked as a carpenter for Dartmouth College, then became the boatman/rigger for the Dartmouth Rowing team as well as for the several US National teams and the US team during the 1976 Olympics.
