David Decator Anthony passed away peacefully November 22, 2019 at his home.

He was born July 29, 1933 to Stanhope Decator and Evelyn Teague Anthony. He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1951 in the first class to graduate at the new school. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany for the duration.

Upon his return, he found his childhood friend and classmate, Joanne Ragsdale, fell in love, and they married in 1956. They were together for 60 years until her passing. David remained a devoted husband and father throughout his life.

He was employed with the NC Department of Transportation for over 30 years.

For many years David was an active member of Oakhurst Baptist Church. He sang in the choir, played the handbells, and taught the men's Sunday School class. He had the honor of serving as a Deacon.

David was known for both his sense of humor and having been blessed with the gift of gab. If you were on your way somewhere and ran into him--you were going to be late. For he never met a stranger and was always willing to help out anyone in need. He had an intense love of movies, history, music of the '40's, and especially the Bible. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and thoughts.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Joanne Anthony and sister Dorothy Williams.

He is survived by son Jeff Anthony, daughter Kristina Beckwith and son-in-law Clarke Beckwith.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the following businesses, whose owners and staff displayed such kindness and care--America's Roadhouse, Jed's, Golden Corral, K&W Cafeteria, Asheboro Cinemark Theater, R&D Automotive, and Walmart. David thought of you as his extended family and enjoyed his routine visits.

A memorial service will be held at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 11:00 am with Dr. Richard Crider officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 S. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC 27205 or to a charity of your choice.
