William Edward "Bill" Blackwell, age 85, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019, at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Bill was born in Cloverdale, British Columbia on January 12, 1934, the son of Dalton George and Annie (Lightbown) Blackwell. Bill married Sandra Karen McDaniel on March 4, 1961, in Highland, MI. Sandra passed away on September 13, 2014.
When Bill was 15 he started working at the family service station in Berkley, MI. Bill retired from General Motors as a Security Officer after 28 years of service. He enjoyed deer hunting, pheasant hunting, gardening, and farming. Bill liked taking care of his home, yard work, and was known to help his neighbors. Bill loved being with his family and was known as a good storyteller. Bill was a very patriotic American who loved his country.
He is survived by 4 daughters: Pamela Lilley and David Adkisson, Penny Pratt, Deborah and Mark McDaris, Jacqueline and Douglas Freel, 3 sons: Harold and Kathleen Steurer, Robert and IV Blackwell, Dalton and Theresa Blackwell, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sister Thelma Davis, brother Alan Blackwell and dear friend Margaret Hagert. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, son-in-law Steve Pratt, brothers Dalton Jr. and Ralph and sister Helen.
