Sarah passed away Oct. 29, 2019, at her home in Kemp with her family by her side. Sarah E. Kendrick was born April 26, 1920, in Tyler to Clifton Rice and Jenny Moore Rice.

She received a Bachelor's degree in Education from Texas Tech University in January, 1942, one month after the attack on Pearl Harbor. She received her Master's degree in Education from Southern Methodist University in 1955 and taught school in Irving for 45 years.

Sarah worked for Consolidated Aircraft in Fort Worth as a draftsman in the Engineering Department on the experimental B-36, the largest bomber at that time, for two years during World War II.

Her husband was in the Air Transport Command of the Air Force stationed in India. He made many trips over the Himalaya Mountains ferrying cargo to China.

Sarah loved to travel and made a two and a half month trip around the world in 1965. She also visited England eight times, Europe several times and Hawaii three times. Many of the trips were with her daughter Mary Beth. They also rode in the Goodyear Blimp, a hot-air balloon, a restored B-24, and rode in a helicopter over Dallas at night and also over a live volcano in Hawaii.

Sarah lived in Kemp for the past 13 years. She attended Central Baptist Church in Mabank and was a member of the Cedar Creek Lake Women's Club, as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of the War of 1812, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims and United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and sister Evelyn.

A memorial service for Sarah E. Kendrick, age 99, of Kemp was held Nov. 2, 2019 at Central Baptist Church in Mabank with Rev. Richard Fulton officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler.
