Born in Roaring Spring, Blair County, Oct. 16, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Kessler Alvie and Gladys Irene (Smith) Shaw. She was united in marriage to David W. Rhodes Jan, 10, 1970 in Bakers Summit. Their upcoming anniversary would have marked 50 years of marriage. Mr. Rhodes survives at home.
Along with her husband, she is survived by two sons, Bryan L. Rhodes and David W. Rhodes Jr. and wife Lani, a daughter Tammy S. Rhodes and fiancé, James Swope Jr.; grandchildren, Courtney Brenneman and companion, Sean Sweeney, Joshua Rhodes, Lindsay Bell, Conner Rhodes, Tyler Rhodes, Michael Swope and Brittany Swope; great-grandchildren, Adalynne, Parker and Keagan.
Also surviving are four sisters, Janet Detterline, widow of Charles, Judy McClelland and husband, Jim, Donna Simington and husband, Ronald, and Sue Sassaman and husband, Dalton, and a brother, Robert Shaw, and wife Linda.
Mrs. Rhodes was of the Brethren faith.
She held memberships in the Saxton Vol. Fire Co., Marklesburg Vol. Fire Co., and the Woodcock Valley Lions Club. She was on the bingo committee at the Saxton Volunteer Fire Co. and was the turkey dinner coordinator for the Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Co.
Mrs. Rhodes worked at Cove Shoe until the late 90s when she became the caregiver for her mother and mother-in-law. She also was a caregiver through Home Nursing Agency and also was the babysitter for her grandchildren.
She loved playing bingo, going to yard sales and flea markets, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Woodcock Valley Bible Church, 16412 Raystown Road, James Creek, with the Rev. Buddy Baird officiating. Interment will take place in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township.
Friends will be received at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc., Broad Top, from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, and at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday, until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to either the Matt Baker Local Cancer Fund c/o First National Bank, 911 Church St., Saxton, PA 16621 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 30105.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc., Broad Top City.
