Gladys Marie Stephens Godfrey Howell, 88, of Westover passed away November 23, 2019 at the home of her daughter, Sue. She was born on May 2, 1931 in Toronto, Ohio; the daughter of the late Doss Harris and Majore Elizabeth Weidner Stephens.

She worked at Sycamore Lanes in Westover from 1971 to 1981 and then retired from Student Activities at WVU on October 1, 1992. She was a life member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 548 in Morgantown. She also served as treasurer of the Westover Senior Bowlers and was a senior volunteer for WVU Hospital.

She is survived by one son: Stanley, Jr. and wife Edith Godfrey of SC; three daughters: Sue Godfrey DeVault of Westover, Deborah Godfrey McKinney of FL, and Janet Godfrey Porter of SC. She is also survived by two sisters: Helen Montagliani of Texas and Anna Mae and husband William King of Morgantown; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry U. Howell; her former husband, Stanley Godfrey, Sr.; one daughter Paula Godfrey Jensen; one son-in-law, Daniel Porter; three brothers: James, Glenn, and Paul Stephens; a sister Deloris Howell; an infant sister: Catherine Louise Stephens; a granddaughter, Jennifer Boone, a brother-in-law, Ernie Montagliani, and two sisters-in-law: Mary Jo and Lois Stephens.

Friends and family may gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Monday, November 25, 2019 from 5-8 pm and again on Tuesday from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
