Mrs. Martha Rena Carter Riggs, 81, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Riggs, a native of Jackson, Tenn., lived in Richmond and Norfolk, Va. for a number of years. She made her home in Greenville in 1948, and attended the Vernon Hall Mission in Kinston and the Greenville Church of God. She and her husband owned and operated the Riggs House Restaurant in Greenville for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by a son, Al Riggs; and her husband, James W. Riggs Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Tami Riggs Gentry and husband, Mark, of Wake Forest and Victoria Lucille Riggs, of the home; grandchildren, Christy R. Vernon and husband, Johnny, of Greenville, Taylor Mayo, Lexi Mayo, Gabby Mayo and Hannah Gentry, all of Wake Forest; great-grandchildren, Cayla and Cole Vernon; sisters, Ina Albanese, of Alabama, Annabelle Hopkins, Pat Stewart, Ada Ford, Delores Smith, all of Tennessee; and brothers, Gene Carter, of Tennessee and Larry Carter, of Mississippi.
