Obituary for Lee David Woods
LEE DAVID WOODS
April 21, 1933 – October 16, 2019
Lee, 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning
of October 16, 2019 after a courageous battle with dementia
and ultimately a stroke that occurred on September 22 nd .
He was born in Montrose, Colorado on April 21, 1933 as the youngest of
19 siblings to Benjamin and Alice Woods. With an upbringing on a farm,
he continued to have a passion for working in his yard and growing beautiful
flowers, fruit orchards and vegetable gardens throughout his life. After
graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Honor Guard in Fort Campbell, Kentucky
where he trained as a Paratrooper. He then attended the University of Northern Colorado
where he received his Bachelors and Masters degree in Education. His career as a
teacher went on for 40 years as he taught grades 4 th thru 6 th in the Barstow
Unified School District where he left lasting impressions on the many students
he taught over the years. Known for his jokes and sense of humor, especially among family,
close friends and co-workers, he was always a source of laughter and
entertainment. He was an avid sports fan, animal lover and always took great pride and
enjoyment in being involved and lovingly supporting his children and grandchildren in activities
they pursued over the years.
Lee is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 52 years;
three children: Tim Woods of Sausalito, CA, Tommy Woods of Austin, TX and
Diane Gerot of Lake Oswego, OR; four grandchildren: Justin Robinson,
Cameron Robinson, Mitch Gerot and Cort Gerot; and one brother Ben Woods
of Montrose, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Robinson.
A Funeral will be celebrated on Monday, October 28 th at 11:00am at
Sunset Hills Mortuary (24000 Waalew Road, Apple Valley, CA 92307).
The family wishes to thank Sterling Commons and Community Hospice of
Victor Valley for their wonderful loving care of Lee.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association,
The Southern California Chapter.
