Joe Edward Powell Jr, age 59 left this world to go be with the Lord at 10:00 am on November 22, 2019 after a brief illness.

Joe was born in Upshur County on November 19, 1960 to Joe Edward and Janet Warnell Powell. He was raised in the Cox Community and joined the Victory Baptist Church at an early age. He was a member of the Lafayette & Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Prior to his illness he enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins, watching wrestling and the Dallas Cowboys.

He never married nor had any children but was blessed with a two nieces, four nephews as well as seven great nieces and eight great nephews who he loved dearly.

Joe is survived by his parents Joe & Janet Powell of Gilmer, sisters Karen Collins (husband Tony) of Gilmer, Patricia Concha of Houston, nieces Elicia (husband Andrew) of Houston, Camillia (husband Randy) of Houston, four nephews Michael Paul and Honey of Gilmer, Samuel and Wendy of Houston, Jonathan, Brandon (wife Haylee) of Gilmer.

Service will be at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. with Brother Scott Darby officiating. Burial will follow at LaFayette Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, November 24, 2019, 5-7 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home.
