Josephine (Hughes) Robinson
May 18, 1940 ~ November 20, 2019 (age 79)
Josephine Robinson, 79, of Crossett, Arkansas transitioned on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at the Ashley County Medical Center. She was born in Hamburg, AR on May 18, 1940, and was a life-long resident of Ashley County. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and remained faithful to holiness up until the time she departed this earthly realm. She loved God and joyfully served in many capacities at Davis Memorial Church of God in Christ and at Evangelist Temple until her health declined. Notably, she was a Sunday School teacher, Y.P.W.W. (Young People Willing Workers) president, Mother’s Board member, choir member, Bible Band teacher, Home & Foreign Missions worker, and Sewing Circle participant.
Through the years, she was primarily self-employed and worked at local business establishments; however, her most rewarding endeavor was being a homemaker, educator, cook, nurse, and loving mother to her six children. She was extremely intelligent, and as a middle school student in Hamburg, she was often asked to teach high school student classes.
In her later years, she enjoyed working on complicated jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, and sewing, but cooking was by far her God-given gift. She was a wonderful songstress as well, and loved to read the Bible and discuss it with everyone and anyone in her presence. Her big heart, hilarious sense of humor, and amazing cooking made her easy to be loved by everyone. She was affectionately known as Mother Robinson, Grandma Jo, and just “mama” by all who cherished her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Pearlie and Lizzie Marie Jacob Hughes; two brothers, Pearlie Hughes, Jr. and Travis Hughes; and one grandson, J.D. Robinson.
She is survived by her six children: Dr. Carl Robinson (Judy) of Dallas, TX, Dr. Dorothy Langley (Roger) of Tyler, TX, Rob Robinson of Omaha, NE, Peggy Brown (Earl) of Bastrop, LA, Jessie Foster (Bestre) of Crossett, AR, and Judge Judy Robinson of Little Rock, AR; and thirteen grandchildren, Brittney Robinson, Joskia Wilson, Miracle Muse, Gabrielle Wilber, Jaden Wilber, Davina Austin, Yovonnie Wordlow, Timothy Mills, Anita Mills, Jonathan Robinson, Carletta Robinson, Kerrian Robinson, and Asher Robinson; along with sixteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Her family will proudly honor her life and legacy during a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30th at the Davis Memorial COGIC, 300 N. Virginia St. in Crossett, followed by interment at Pugh Cemetery.
