Minter “Wayne” Merten of Hempstead, TX passed away peacefully while surrounded by family in his home. ~~ Wayne, always a friend & well liked, was a proud graduate of Hempstead High School, Class of 1967 . He enjoyed many hobbies and passions throughout his life including carpentry, coon hunting, fishing, chickens, and horses, but above all he was most passionate for his family.
In 1968, he married the love of his life, Louise. The two of them shared 51 beautiful years of marriage. During those years, Wayne was an amazing dad to his children, a loving “Papa” to his grandchildren, and a hardworking and loving husband to his wife. ~~ He is preceded in death by his parents: Jesse James Merten and Lou Addie Merten; and his nieces: Dana Styers Thompson and Marla Sue Styers. ~~ Those left to treasure his memory are his wife, Nettie “Louise” Merten of Hempstead, TX; daughter, Lanna Merten of Hempstead, TX; son, Jess Merten and wife Jeannie of Hempstead, TX; grandchildren: Hanna and husband Kolton, Trevor, Jesse, Kayleigh, Eric, and Jase; great-grandchildren: Kenleigh and Levi; sisters: Zolene Styers and husband Lamar, and Sue Barkley and husband Tommy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and a host of friends. Wayne will always be warmly loved, fondly remembered and greatly missed.
