Hospital Steward Henry Walter Thomas Staff Officer Twelth Regiment Of Georgia Volunteer Infantry (May 6, 1864 -- April 9, 1865)Born June 15, 1842 in Eatonton, Georgia, to Gabriel R. Thomas & Mary C. Turner. Died April, 1909 in Milledgeville, Georgia. Buried in Memory Hill Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia, Section I East, Lot 63, Grave 9. Recruited for the "Putnam Light Infantry," Company G, Twelth Regiment of Georgia Volunteer Infantry on May 14, 1862, at Augusta, Georgia. Captured near Front Royal, Virginia, June 10, 1862, while sick and absent from his company. Appointed regimental hospital steward May 6, 1864. Surrendered at Appomattox, Virginia, April 9, 1865. Married to Amanda Barnett on June, 1870, in Milledgeville, Georgia. Amanda died a year later. Clerk in the Office of the Secretary of State. Author of the book, "History Of The Doles-Cook Brigade."
