Sam married Hazel (Trotter) Nov.13,1927 in Elm River Twp. Together they raised 6 daughters.
He had a brother - William H. called "Bill" - and 3 infant brothers and sisters.
Sam died one day before his brother William passed away. They lived a half mile from each other in Mt. Erie, Illinois.
Both were retired farmers.

Sam Shannon, 78, Mt. Erie died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, in his home.
Services were held in the Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne with Rev. Donald Vaughan and Rev. Harold Batchelor presiding. Burial was in Locust Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Shannon was born Nov. 11, 1906, in Wayne County, the son of James Lewis and Mary (Webb) Shannon. He married Hazel Trotter Nov. 13, 1927, in Elm River Township, and she survives.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mt. Erie Jesus Name Pentecostal Church.
Other survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Charles (Gladys) Lambrich, East Alton; Mrs. Conrad (Joyce) Madding, and Mrs. James (Marjorie) Hedrick, both of Mt. Erie; Mrs. Jack (Betty) Enlow, Cisne; Mrs. Mary Lou Simpson, Fairfield; and Mrs. Donald (Peggy) Watson, Houston, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Burkett, Fairfield; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three infant brothers and sisters.
A brother, William, died 24 hours later in his home in Mt. Erie.
