Charlene E. Long

Charlene E. Long, age 85, of Centerville died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.

She was born the daughter of Harry and Eva (Glascock) Winger on Sept. 8, 1921 in Seymour. She received her education in the Centerville Community Schools.

On April 24, 1943, Charlene was united in marriage to Erman M. Long in Lancaster, Mo. She worked for over nine years at Union Carbide and later worked at the Pale Moon, Catfish Place as well as the City Drug, all in Centerville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marlin, Max and John D. Winger; sisters, Betty Bullard and Phyllis Thomp-son.

Charlene is survived by: her sons, Dr. James and his wife, Dr. Elaine Long of Boise, Idaho, and Erman L. and his wife, Charlotte Long of Centerville; daughter, Joyce and her husband, Henry Roger of Casa Grand, Ariz.; grandchildren, Matthew Long of Boise, Idaho, Andrew Long of San Francisco, Calif., Meghan Rogers of Los Angeles, Calif., Kate Rogers of Phoenix, Ariz., and Amy Lee and her husband, James Brown of Centerville; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Logan Brown of Centerville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Dale Cemetery north of Centerville.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to the Golden Age Care Center Activity Fund and can be left at or mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home at 501 North 18th Street in Centerville, Iowa 52544. Condolences can be sent at: schmidtfamilyfuneralhome.com
