Bernice Louise White, age 80, of Mattoon went to her heavenly home at 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at her residence.

Funeral services honoring her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Don Pankey and Pastor Ian Stamps officiating. Burial will follow at Windsor Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the funeral home.

Bernice was born on August 4, 1939 in Windsor the daughter of Earl and Mary (Hickey) Daniels. She married Raymond Eugene White on December 30, 1954. He preceded her in death on January 17, 2011.

Survivors include her daughters, Laura (Randy) Smyser, Mary White and Nancy (Quinton) Webb; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; siblings, Mickey Hite, Jim Daniels and Grace (Stan) Schull; and beloved dog, Drake. In addition to her husband Raymond, Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Mack Daniels and Jesse Brown; and favorite dog, Raymondo.

Bernice was a member of Broadway Christian Church. She worked as a nurse at Cunningham Nursing Home, Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home and at Douglas Nursing Home for over 30 years. In her younger years, Bernice enjoyed playing softball and was known as “Bernice the Furnace” by her peers. She participated in many powder puff stock car races and even recently enjoyed watching her grandsons race.

Bernice was an avid Chicago Cubs, Illini and Nascar fan. She enjoyed traveling and had visited every state except Alaska and Hawaii. She had also traveled to Israel, Jerusalem and Haiti. Most of all, Bernice cherished spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
