Services for Ms. Phyllis Kim Bennett Bryant, 60, who died Nov. 7 at Jeff Davis Hospital, were held Nov. 16 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
The Rev. Ericka Dunbar, Pastor H.L. McRoy, and Pastor Reuben Bennett Jr. officiated with burial in Francis Chapel Cemetery in McRae.
Mrs. Bryant was the daughter of the late Walter and Barbara ann Bennett of Hazlehurst. “Kim” or “Red” as affectionately known, graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1977. She attended South Georgia College in Douglas earning a degree in business. She continued her education at Savannah State University. On Nov. 15, 1985 Kim was married to her husband, Leroy Bryant, now deceased. She was a avid bowler and a superb cook. She was a survivor of cancer for over 20 years. Before moving back to Hazlehurst, she was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Lanett, Ala. and was now at member of Antioch C.M.E. Church. Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter and Barbara Ann Bennett; brother, Lamar Bennett; brothers-in-law, Willie James Williams and Jimmy Scurry.
Survivors include her two daughters, Neisha Sanders-Stenson and Tristan (Tracey) Sailem of Hazlehurst; nine grandchildren, Dedra Robinson, Steven C.L. Johnson, Zandasia K. Johnson, Tajurnee F. Butler, all of Hazlehurst, Tracy Sailem Jr. of Missouri, Jackie Sailem of Lyons, Jamal Sailem of Baxley, Tre’veous Sailem of Brunswick, and Kamara Jones of Atlanta; two great-grandchildren, Xavier Taylor and Essence Robinson; eight siblings, Vincent (Gail) Bennett of Hazlehurst, Linda Gail (Michael) Doctor of Rockledge, Fla., Jared Scurry of Hazlehurst, Kendall (Sari) Bennett of Lilburn, Sheila Williams, Zabra Bennett and Shaun Herring, all of Hazlehurst. and a host of relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers were 2nd Generation Bennett Blue Shirts.
Honorary pallbearers were Uncle Charlie Bennett, Uncle Reuben Bennett Sr., Uncle Jim Bennett, Uncle Ray Bennett, Winfred Bennett, Jerrell Brigs, Jim Johnson and Tim Dotson
Music was rendered by Kristy Bennett and Johnny Myles.
Thornton’s Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.
