The oldest living World War II veteran in Clay County at the time of his death, Paul served in 1901st Engineering Aviation Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He participated in the Battle of Okinawa and in the occupation of Korea after the war. Paul was a member of the American Legion for 71 consecutive years, and was, at one time, the commander for the local VFW and American Legion posts simultaneously. Paul was a founding member of the Shankey Branch First Church of God, where he taught adult Sunday School for 60 years and held every secular office in the Church while also often serving as a lay preacher. Paul also served as Clay County Trustee from 1966-1974. In addition, he was a farmer and managed several local businesses. He ended his working career as a rural mail carrier. Paul was married first to his childhood sweetheart “Bill” Cunningham; together they had four children. He married second Claudine Roach Key Crowe. Both his wives, his parents, Allen and Rosa (Warden) White, sister Anna Ruth, brothers Raymond and Floyd, and son Edward Houston preceded him in death.
